As a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Elder Abuse and Neglect, Marie Beaulieu’s first mandate is to put forward contributions to the social sciences research field that focus on the issues of the mistreatment and neglect of older persons, which are at the heart of this high-quality, multidisciplinary publication.

Entitled 'How to Better Tackle Elder Abuse in Belgium?', the report identifies avenues for improving detection and taking charge of situations of mistreatment of older adults in this country.

Throughout 2021, the Research Chair will participate in two working committees that will analyse, in-depth and each according to their mandate, the ethical issues faced by occupational therapists in situations of organisational mistreatment and present possible solutions that could be mobilised.

Titled The Mistreatment of Older Adults: Definitions, public actions and the experiences of stakeholders, this issue of the magazine is edited by Marie Beaulieu (Québec) and Françoise Le Borgne-Uguen (France).

In partnership with the WHO and several international researchers, the Research Chair has begun to compose an ‘overview’ article.

As Chairholder, Marie Beaulieu joins an intersectoral working group coordinated by the Secrétariat aux Aînés of the Government of Québec.

Since March, the Chairholder and members of the research team have been involved in a diversity of work concerning the mistreatment of older persons and COVID-19. Here is a summary of their activities within various categories.

As part of the extraordinary activities undertaken by the International Network for Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA) in this time of a global pandemic, the Research Chair participated in diverse, international initiatives.

On April 16, 2020, the Honourable Gary D.D. Morrison, J.S.C. (Judge of the Superior Court of Quebec) handed down his judgment in favour of the estate of the late Veronica Piela.

By organizing meetings once-a-week for five weeks, the extraordinary work of the INPEA has facilitated international exchanges on the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic for the older adult population worldwide.
