On January 25, 2024, the Research Chair on Mistreatment of Older Adults had the honor of receiving the visit of the Minister Responsible for Seniors and Minister for Health, Mrs. Sonia Bélanger.
As part of the AGEWELL's Annual Congress from October 24 to October 26 2023, Chairholder, Mélanie Couture, participated to a symposium entitled: Development and implementation of telemonitoring technologies: how can we better meet the needs and ensure safety of older adults with cognitive disorders who wish to age in place?
The Research Chair on Mistreatment of Older Adults is proud to present its awareness raising campaign to mistreatment of older adults in private seniors' residences, developped in collaboration with older adults living in private seniors' residences.
To transfer knowledge on mistreatment of older adults to the largest number of people as possible, the Chair announces the launch of it's new Facebook page. There you will find the different activities of the Chair as well as news.
The GIFT in residence program (Goodwill against Intolerance For Togetherness) is intended for managers and staff members of private seniors residences (PSR) and aims to provide tools and activities to promote goodwill in PSRs and to fight against intolerance between residents.
In September, Marie Beaulieu went on a second professional stay in Europe this year. This time, the stay lasted a little more than a week in Belgium which allowed to complete many activities.
The World Health Organization (WHO) published, on June 15, 2022, during the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, a list of five priorities to put forward before 2030 as part of the United Nations’ (UN) Decade of Healthy Ageing.
It is an international document to which the Chair contributed significantly. Marie Beaulieu is thanked for her important contribution to the development of these priorities by conceptualising them, the administration of the project and the review of the document. The Chair is proud to be associated to the whole process that led to the production of this document and these priorities.
The Governmental Action Plan to Counter Mistreatment of Older Adults (2022-2027) (free translation of Plan d’action gouvernemental pour contrer la maltraitance envers les personnes aînées (2022-2027)), also called PAM-3, launched on June 12, shows the priority actions in regard to countering mistreatment of older adults for the next five years. In summary, the PAM-3 proposes:

• 56 measures (31 new, 25 renewed)
• $50 M in investment
April the 22th, Marie Beaulieu cohosted the works aiming to define the priorities on the matter of fighting against mistreatment of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030). It was an occasion to bring together the governments, the civil society, international organisations, professionals, the academic community, the medias and the private sector to define activities to carry out during a period of 10 years an act of concertedness, catalysis and collaboration to counter mistreatment.
On April 28th, Marie Beaulieu participated to an exchange day in Paris with the various researcher teams of the TACT research project (Traitement des alertes de maltraitance en coopération sur les territoires) (Treatment of Mistreatment Alerts in Cooperation on the Territories).
