The report on violence, mistreatment and neglect of older adults (UN) (Le rapport « violence, maltraitance et négligence à l’égard des personnes âgées »)
The report ” violence, maltraitance et négligence à l’égard des personnes âgées ” realised by the Independent expert responsible for promoting the exercise of every human rights by older adults, Claudia Mahler, was published on August 7, 2023 and was presented a the fifty fourth session of the Human Rights Council.
In her report, Ms. Mahler presents a thematic analysis on the global situation concerning violence, mistreatment and neglect of older adults. She explores the different forms of mistreatment, goes over the prevention and protection measures on the subject and proposes a series of recommendations.
The Chair contributed to the report by answering the call for text and by submitting two texts in February 2023. The first one on the importance to expand the data on mistreatment and the second one on recognizing organizational mistreatment. The latter were made public when the report was published.
