Marie Beaulieu participate to the WHO’s works aiming to introduce countering mistreatment in the Decade of Healthy Ageing 2021 – 2030’s agenda.

April the 22th, Marie Beaulieu cohosted the works aiming to define the priorities on the matter of fighting against mistreatment of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030). It was an occasion to bring together the governments, the civil society, international organisations, professionals, the academic community, the medias and the private sector to define activities to carry out during a period of 10 years an act of concertedness, catalysis and collaboration to counter mistreatment.

The WHO tends to adopt a multi-sector public health approach based, among others, on human rights. Among the discussed themes between experts during this consultation were found: the psychometric quality of measuring instruments, an estimation of prevalence (a possible general underestimation and a possible overestimation of certain types, such as psychological mistreatment), the need for repeated measures at fixed intervals (such as 5 or 10 years), the absence or the lack of data about mistreatment in certain environment (such as long term care environment), etc.

Two studies from the WHO, where the Research Chair on Mistreatment of Older Adults lead by Marie Beaulieu acted as co-researcher, served as a basis to select the priorities on countering mistreatment integrated to the WHO’s Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030). Those priorities will be public next June 15th during the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
