The article titled: La création et l’utilisation de guides de pratique en travail social : illustration d’une pratique en contexte d’autonégligence (loose translation:The creation and use of practive guides in social work: illustration in the context of self-neglect) is inspired by findings of the Jessica Calvé in her final essay for her Masters in Social Work under the direction of Marie Beaulieu. It was published in the fall of 2017 in issue 146 of the journal entitled Intervention, published by l’Ordre des travailleurs sociaux et des thérapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Québec (OTSTCFQ) (loose translation: Order of Social Workers and Family and Marriage Therapists of Quebec).

The UN-MENAMAIS project (Understanding Mechanisms, Nature, Magnitude and Impact of Sexual Violence in Belgium) aims to understand the mechanisms, nature, extent and effects of sexual violence in Belgium. The Belgian research team is interested in this problem at all ages of life and has sought the collaboration of various international experts, including Marie Beaulieu, Chairholder. She is the voice of research on this issue for older adults.

The 46th Annual Scientific and Educational Meeting of the Canadian Association on Gerontology (CAG) was held in Winnipeg, Manitoba, from October 19 to 21, 2017. Researchers in the field of gerontology were invited to give lectures on the following theme: Evidence for Action in an Aging World. In total, the Chair presented 3 posters and 6 presentations. The Canadian Elder Law Conference was held on November 2 and 3, 2017, in Vancouver. Focusing specifically on legal and political issues affecting older adults, this biennial conference offered an inter-disciplinary perspective on the rights of older adults, policy, avenues for practice, case studies, ethics recommendations and exploring avenues for reform in the field of law.

During the week of October 2, 2017, Dominique Terrasson, Cheffe de projet Prévention et lutte contre la maltraitance dans le secteur social et médico-social (Loose translation: Leader of the project on preventing and countering mistreatment in the social and medico-social sector, to the Government of France, carried out a work assignment visiting Quebec. Two activities took place with the members of the Chair and their partners.

The consultation day, held on September 28, 2017, was part of the work to develop the 2018-2023 action plan stemming from the Aging and Living Together, at Home, in One’s Community, in Quebec. Minister responsible for Seniors and Anti-Bullying, Ms. Francine Charbonneau, was present for the occasion.

On September 7, members of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) informed the public of the election of Marie Beaulieu for her excellence in academic and scientific achievements in the field of mistreatment of older adults. In the notice describing Marie Beaulieu, the RSC emphasised her contribution to the development of knowledge in this field and to the recognition of this social problem in terms of intervention practices, advocacy and policies.

In June 2017, members of the National Assembly voted in favour of the appointment of Roxane Leboeuf, Chair Coordinator, as a member of the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse (CDPDJ) (The Commission on Human Rights and Youth Rights). Her swearing-in ceremony took place on September 12th at the CDPDJ offices in Montréal and marked her inauguration.

The Fédération Internationale des Associations de Personnes Âgées (International Federation of Associations of the Elderly - FIAPA) adopted the Manifesto of Havana at the Colloque International des Droits des Personnes Âgées (Conference on the Rights of Older Adults in the World) held last April in Havana, Cuba. Marie Beaulieu participated in the elaboration of this manifesto calling for the mobilisation for "the rights of older people to remain active citizens who participate in social, economical, political and cultural activities of society and who build their own lives".
