In the fall of 2018, the Quebec Association of Gerontology published a special edition of its magazine Vie et Vieillissement focusing on seniors’ participation in society. The Chair took this occasion to showcase the research work on this subject.

For more than 30 years, the Centre Jacques Cartier has organized a yearly, collaborative exchange event (Entretiens Jacques Cartier). Over a period of three days, French-speaking figures from Canada and France, representing academia, science, culture, economics and institutions, are invited to share ideas on a variety of themes.

During a Research Chair team meeting held on January 24, the members took part in a seminar led by Marie-Eve Nadeau, interim coordinator of the Eastern Townships region, concerning the role of regional coordinators specializing in the fight against mistreatment of older persons.

On December 18, a meeting of the Advisory Committee to the Chair was held. Composed of internal and external evaluators from the University of Sherbrooke, the committee’s objective is to annually evaluate the Chair on its realization of activities in relation to its budget.

Isabelle Maillé, graduate of the Master of Social Science program at the University of Laval, is the recipient of the 2018 Excellence Grant from the Chaire de recherche Antoine-Turmel sur la protection juridique des aînés (Antoine-Turmel Research Chair on Judicial Protection of Older Adults) in the category of best essay, dissertation or thesis.

On November 1, 2018, the Chair tabled a research report concerning promising avenues to counter the mistreatment of older adults. This report is directed to public policy planners in the Western Pacific region (as defined by the WHO).
