During the meeting on December 3, Marie Beaulieu gave a presentation to the judges of the Municipal Court of Montreal entitled: La judiciarisation des situations de maltraitance envers les aînés. Quelques enjeux contemporains (The Prosecution of Mistreatment Situations against Older Adults. A few Contemporary Issues). She talked about mistreatment on a more general level and then focused on the latest knowledge of the justice system. Implementing this program is demonstrating the evolution of legal practices that tend gradually to be more sensitive to the reality of seniors. In a context of populational aging, it is necessary to adapt the justice system to this reality. The approach tends toward a restorative justice where sentences take into account the experiences of the mistreated older person and her/his needs.

Also during that day, Marie Beaulieu was invited to observe the conduct of a case before court, but this was settled out of court and the observation was therefore canceled.

She intends to go back for sure!
