The Chair got involved with the purple ribbon campaign in the Estrie region last June. (October 14, 2015)

Themes: Awareness

For this year’s World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), the Chair decided to take action in the region. Members of the Chair handed out flyers and purple ribbons, and set up a booth at the CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS D’Youville Pavilion, and the Centre de recherche sur le vieillissement) to inform people about mistreatment of older adults, WEAAD, the Chair’s activities, the tools we have developed (In Hand Guide, Arrimage Guide, etc.), as well as other useful tools (Reference guide, Elder Abuse Help Line bookmarks, etc.). In all, 220 flyers and ribbons were distributed by members of the Chair to residents and visitors, caregivers and other staff members of the CIUSSS Estrie-CHUS D’Youville Pavilion, (secretaries, hairdressers, cooks, maintenance workers, research professionals, etc.). This awareness-raising activity was held in addition to numerous conferences given by Marie Beaulieu in various regions of Québec during the same period.

The Chair would like to highlight the success of the 2015 purple ribbon campaign in the Estrie region (download the French version of the campaign summary). The launch event was covered by five local media outlets, and together, organizations in the Estrie region distributed 12 755 ribbons and flyers throughout the area. They also developed new promotional tools, including purple ribbon refrigerator magnets (2250 ribbon magnets distributed), 21 giant weather-proof purple ribbon signs (7 ft. high by 3 ft. wide), and distributed a Charte de la bientraitance (Charter of Good-Treatment) in both French and English. We hope that participation in the event continues to grow year after year in the Estrie region and throughout Québec, with the aim of improving the quality of life for the older adults in our lives!
