A fundamental action of the Plan d’action gouvernemental pour contrer la maltraitance envers les personnes aînées 2010-2015, which is the creation of the position of regional coordinators, as been established since spring of 2011.
The coordinators commit to their environment and play a leadership role to favor the concertation and partnership between different local and regional actors. Their mandate consist of painting a portrait of the offered services and the available resources on their territories and establishing a relationship with the actors of this environment, with the goal of ensuring the efficiency of the services to counter mistreatment.
The training sessions aims to better equip the coordinators so they can fully play their role in this environment. The Research Chair on Mistreatment of Older Adults is responsible of the mistreatment part, whereas Denis Bourque from the UQO, Chairholder of the Chaire de recherche du Canada en organisation communautaire, addresses the part of intersectoral work. The first training where the Plan d’action, the place of older adults in society and the general knowledge related to mistreatment where discussed took place in May of 2011. The second training, which will take place on October 25 in Montréal, will address the continuum of services to counter mistreatment and the prevention, identification and intervention tools available.
