From November 26 to December 1st, the Chair welcomed the representatives of the Agence wallonne de lutte contre la maltraitance (The Walloon Agency to Counter Mistreatment)

This activity is part of a cooperation project granted by the VIIe Commission mixte permanente Québec/Wallonie-Bruxelles 2011-2013 (VIIth  Mixed Permanent Commission Québec/ Wallonia- Brussels 2011-2013)to the Research Chair on mistreatment of older adults and the Agence wallonne de lutte à la maltraitance (The Walloon Agency to Counter Mistreatment), better known as Respect Seniors.

This project, entitled Réflexions communes autour de la mise en œuvre d’un outil lié à la lutte contre la maltraitance des personnes âgées (Common Reflections around the Establishing of a Tool to Counter Mistreatment of Older Adults)(for which you can have more information by visiting the Activities section), already allowed the realisation of two Québec missions in Belgium, and for the Walloons, it was their first mission in Québec.

The Chair proposed a very busy and varied work schedule to allow them to take the pulse of Québecers on the subject of countering mistreatment. The activities took place in Montréal and in Sherbrooke:

  • Visit at Carrefour Montrose to exchange about the project Soutien aux aînés victimes d’abus (Support for Older Adults Victim of Abuse)( (SAVA)
  • Participation to the annual training of regional coordinators of the Plan d’action gouvernemental pour contrer la maltraitance envers les personnes aînées (Governmental Action Plan to Counter Mistreatment of Older Adults)
  • Work seminar with the members of the Chair
  • Exchanges with representatives of the Table estrienne de concertation contre la maltraitance faite aux aînés (Estrian Concertation Table to Counter Mistreatment Perpetrated to Older Adults)
  • Visit of the SQ’s (Sherbrooke) rooms  and a presentation about their different programs addressed to older adults
  • Meeting with the responsible of the helpline Aide Abus Aînés (Help Abuse Older Adults) and exchanges on their respective coordination experiences of a phone helpline

By the end of the project (spring/summer 2012), two other missions will be deployed, one in Wallonia, the other in Québec.
