The Research Centre on Aging, where the Research Chair is housed, participates in research projects in collaboration with numerous regional organizations, like DIRA-Estrie, and is a member of the Table de concertation contre les mauvais traitements faits aux personnes aînées de l’Estrie (round table to counter mistreatment of older adults in the Estrie region). The Centre is represented at the round table by a member of the Chair.

The last twelve months were filled with productions of all kinds for the Chair. So we are now able to provide you with two new knowledge transfer activities whose description will be available shortly on our website.

Each year, the Chair welcomes several students within its team. Students contribute in various ways to the advancement of knowledge and practices with respect to countering mistreatment of older adults. This year, three of them will do their master’s internship in social work in connection with mistreatment of older adults.

In August 2015, Marie Beaulieu was approached by Suzanne Dupuis-Blanchard, president of the Canadian Association on Gerontology (CAG) in order to be part of the CAG’s Legacy Fund Committee for a three-year mandate.

In order to facilitate access and sharing of relevant and quality information in countering elder abuse across Canada, the Canadian Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (CNPEA) has completely revamped its website (http://www.cnpea.ca) which was launched on September 1, 2015.

The Partners’ Forum to counter mistreatment of older adults was held on June 17, 2015.This Forum was intended to provide a continuing training day to a large number of practitioners dedicated to countering mistreatment of older adults through several presentations given by experts.

Last June, Marie Beaulieu learned that her mandate with the National Seniors Council of Canada was renewed for three years. The role of the National Council is to advise the Canadian government on issues regarding well-being and quality of life for seniors. More specifically, the National Council provides information to the Minister of Employment and Social Development, the Minister of Health and the Minister of State (Seniors).

Marie-Ève Bedard, a PhD student in gerontology, has published, in June, in collaboration with Marie Beaulieu, an article in the number 50 of the French magazine Le Sociographe. The Review Committee on Terminology to Counter Mistreatment of Older Adults is composed of Sarita Israel (Coordinator of the Cutting-Edge Practice to counter mistreatment of older adults from the CSSS Cavendish CAU, Central-West Island CIUSSS), Marie-Ève Manseau-Young (Planning, Programming and Research Officer for the provincial Elder Abuse Help Line and also an active member in the practice within the Research Chair on Mistreatment),

The Chair has obtained on April 1, 2015 the grant requested from the SSHRC in order to develop the project called L’action bénévole dans la lutte contre la maltraitance matérielle et financière envers les aînés (Volunteering to Counter Material and Financial Mistreatment). The purpose of this three-year project is to document and to focus on volunteer action to counter material and financial mistreatment of older adults to then improve it afterwards.
