The UN-MENAMAIS project (Understanding Mechanisms, Nature, Magnitude and Impact of Sexual Violence in Belgium) aims to understand the mechanisms, nature, extent and effects of sexual violence in Belgium. The Belgian research team is interested in this problem at all ages of life and has sought the collaboration of various international experts, including Marie Beaulieu, Chairholder. She is the voice of research on this issue for older adults.

A Belgian mission financed by the project took place in December, 2017, and brought together all the contributors involved in the project to begin the work. This first international meeting validated the issue, the state of knowledge and the methodological perspectives. During this work assignment, Marie Beaulieu also had the opportunity to meet legislators from the Walloon Government who are initiating a process to enact legislation on the mistreatment of older adults. It was therefore an opportunity for Professor Beaulieu to promote the Government Action Plan to Counter Mistreatment of Older Adults (PAM) as well as the Act to combat maltreatment of seniors and other persons of full age in vulnerable situations.
