Marie Beaulieu participated in the Conference of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), which took place on September 21 and 22, 2017, in Lisbon (Portugal).

The first day was devoted to the presentation of the third review and appraisal cycle (2012-2017) of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA) and its Regional Implementation Strategy (RIS). Afterwards, participants were invited to three panel discussions on the following topics: Recognizing the potential of older adults; Promoting the extension of working life and the ability to work; Aging in dignity. On the second day, ministers from member states of UNECE met in high-level round tables, at the end of which a ministerial declaration was adopted. It describes measures that recognize the potential of older adults, encourage the extension of working life and the ability to work, and ensure respect for the dignity of individuals as they age.

A research forum on aging was also held on September 20 as a pre-conference event at the Ministerial Conference on Aging, in which Marie Beaulieu participated as guest speaker. She discussed the role of the state in countering mistreatment. More specifically, the Chairholder explained the importance of public policy, the laws that underpins it, as well as cross-sectoral review and evaluation mechanisms.
