The 5th International Conference of the International Network on Age, Citizenship and Socio-Economic Integration (REIACTIS) took place in Lausanne (Switzerland) from February 10 to 12, 2016. This year’s theme was: "Ageing and Empowerment - Between Resources and Vulnerabilities".

Interested in this topic, the three doctoral students in the Gerontology program, at the University of Sherbrooke, under the direction of Marie Beaulieu, proposed oral communications which were all accepted. Therefore, Marie Crevier presented a poster entitled Le Care des bénévoles retraités engagés dans la lutte contre la maltraitance envers les personnes aînées. Des aînés soucieux de leurs pairs (The Care of Retired Volunteers Committed to Countering Mistreatment of Older Adults: Seniors Concerned with Their Peers). This poster outlined the preliminary results of her thesis, in the framework of which she is studying the practice of the Care of volunteers committed to countering mistreatment. Caroline Pelletier has also presented a poster entitled L’intervention dans un contexte de conflits familiaux impliquant une personne aînée en perte d’autonomie fonctionnelle et les proches aidants (The intervention in a Context of Family Conflicts Involving Older Adults in Loss of Functional Autonomy and Caregivers). The results are anchored in her practice as a social worker and are supported by a literature review. Caroline also gave a conference, in place of Marie Beaulieu, during the symposium "Les bénévolats : des lieux communs dans la diversité" (Volunteering: Common Places Through Diversity). This conference was entitled: Les aînés bénévoles dans la lutte contre la maltraitance envers leurs pairs : pratiques et enjeux (Volunteer Seniors Countering Mistreatment Toward Their Peers: Practices and Issues). It was basically addressing the results of a research project conducted within the Chair. Finally, based on the analysis of the results from her thesis, Marie-Ève Bédard gave a conference entitled: Prévenir la maltraitance envers les aînés grâce aux comités des usagers du système sociosanitaire Québécois (Preventing Mistreatment of Older Adults Through Users’ Committees of the Quebec Health and Social Services System). It was aiming more specifically at presenting the actions of users’ committees in preventing mistreatment of older adults within the health and social services centres (HSSCs).
