The Chair’s involvement with various organizations
Within the context of different studies, the research Chair on mistreatment of older adults is involved in several organizations:
Long-term involvements
- Member of the scientific committee of the Elder Abuse Helpline
- Member of the scientific committee of the research project on transgender older adults
- Member of the scientific committee of the AEIFA-DIRA organization for the project to train peer group caregivers on mistreatment
- Member of the advisory committee of the National Public Health Institute of Quebec for the production of a synthesis of knowledge on research of mistreatment cases, neglect and violence towards older adults.
- Member of the board of directors of CNPEA (Canadian Network for Prevention of Elder Abuse)
- Member of the board of directors as North American representative to the INPEA (International Network for Prevention of Elder Abuse)
- Member of the NCPEA research committee (National Centre for Prevention of Elder Abuse) – an American association
- Founder member of NICE (National Initiative for the Care of the Elderly) – Active participation in the mistreatment team
- Member of the Quebec Network for Research on Aging
- Member of the Table de concertation contre les mauvais traitements faits aux personnes aînées de l’Estrie (an Eastern Townships round table to counter mistreatment of older adults)
- Member of the scientific committee of the Réiactis (Réseau International sur l’âge, la citoyenneté et l’intégration sociale) International Symposium to be held in Dijon in January 2012
- Organizer of 2 conferences to be given at the Réiactis symposium (Dijon 2012)
- Member of the INPEA international scientific committee for the June 15 2012 meeting (World Elder Abuse Awareness Day) to be held in Prague, in the context of the activities of the International Federation on Aging
- Co-publisher of the Canadian Review of Social Policy’s special issue on aging (expected publication summer 2012)
- Collaboration with the Office des personnes handicapées du Québec (Quebec Office for the Handicapped) in the development of their measures in connection with the Governmental Action Plan to counter elder abuse 2010-2015
Specific involvements
- Expert witness at a hearing on the revision of Quebec’s policy on domestic violence (September 2011)
- Expert witness in the context of a joint project of 5 European countries directed at monitoring mistreatment situations of people in long-term care at home or in institutions (Project MILCEA), (October 2011)
- Expert witness at a hearing of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Public Safety concerning violence against older women (October 2011)
- Consulted by the Table de concertation en violence conjugale de Montreal (a round tables on domestic violence) regarding the content of brochures concerning domestic violence towards older women
