The Chair’s involvement with various organizations

Within the context of different studies, the research Chair on mistreatment of older adults is involved in several organizations:

Long term

  • Member of the scientific committee of the research project on transgender older adults
  • Member of the scientific committee of the AEIFA-DIRA organization for the project to train peer group caregivers on mistreatment
  • Member of the advisory committee of the National Public Health Institute of Quebec for the production of a synthesis of knowledge on research of mistreatment cases, neglect and violence towards older adults.
  • Member of the board of directors of CNPEA (Canadian Network for Prevention of Elder Abuse)
  • Member of the board of directors as North American representative to the INPEA (International Network for Prevention of Elder Abuse)
  • Member of the NCPEA research committee (National Centre for Prevention of Elder Abuse) – an American association
  • Founder member of NICE (National Initiative for the Care of the Elderly – national initiative for care of the elderly) – Active participation in the mistreatment team
  • Member of the Quebec Network for Research on Aging
  • Member of the Eastern Townships issue table to counter mistreatment of older adults
  • Collaboration with the Quebec Office for the Handicapped (OPHQ) in the development of their measures in connection with the Governmental Action Plan to counter elder abuse 2010-2015
  • Member of the Comité Vigie Aînés, a Montreal Police Service watch committee for seniors
  • Member of the board of directors of the Quebec Association for suicide prevention
  • Member of the international committee on «ethics and mistreatment of older adults» sponsored by Prof. Moulias of ALMA-France
  • Support of the regional coordinators of the Governmental Action Plan to Counter Elder Abuse
  • Collaboration with the Ministry of Immigration and Cultural Communities in the development of their actions in connection with the Governmental Action Plan to Counter Elder Abuse 2010-2015 (the MICC determines the pace)
  • Collaboration with the Ministry of Public Safety (MPS) in the development of their actions in connection with the Governmental Action Plan to Counter Elder Abuse 2010-2015 (the MPS determines the pace)
  • Member of the pan-Canadian reference group Age-friendly cities of the Public Health Agency of Canada

  • Expert witness at a hearing on the revision of Quebec's policy on domestic violence (September 2011)
  • Expert witness in the context of a joint project of 5 European countries directed at monitoring mistreatment situations of people in long-term care at home or in institutions (Project MILCEA)(October 2011)
  • Expert witness at a hearing of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Public Safety concerning violence against older women (October 2011)
  • Expert witness at a hearing of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights (federal government) on Bill C-36, an Act to amend the Criminal Code (mistreatment)
  • Member of the international scientific committee for the research project «Perceptions of mistreatment among retired people living at home» University School La Source, Switzerland
  • Review of collection and data analysis documents on the needs of seniors for the non-profit organization Actions Interculturelles
  • Consultation on the content of the brochure «CLAVA, Le devoir d'agir, ensemble» (CLAVA, The duty to act, together) and on the «Guide to counter elder abuse»
